Vienna Travel Guide – Where My Europe Journey Began

How to Reach Vienna from India
Vienna is extremely well connected by international flights. On my first visit, I flew Emirates from Delhi. On my second visit, I travelled by DB train from Nuremberg via Linz Vienna.
Travel Tip: Vienna International Airport (VIE) is about 20–25 minutes from the city centre by train.
Vienna Public Transport Guide
Vienna has one of the most efficient public transport systems in Europe. The city is connected by trams, buses, metro (U-Bahn), and suburban trains. You can purchase 24-hour, 48-hour, or single-journey tickets directly from train stations. The city centre around Stephansplatz is pedestrian-friendly, with no-car zones and wide walking streets Vienna.
Pro Tip: If staying 2–3 days, a 48-hour transport pass is cost-effective.
Where to Stay in Vienna
During my visits, I stayed at Austria Trend Hotel Europa and Hotel Ambassador Vienna. Both properties are centrally located on the main street, and some rooms even offer church views. Staying in Innere Stadt (Old Town) saves travel time and allows you to explore most attractions on foot.
Best Things to Do in Vienna
- Schönbrunn Palace
The former imperial summer residence is Vienna’s most iconic attraction. Explore the royal apartments, walk through expansive gardens, and climb up to the Gloriette for panoramic views. During winter, the Schönbrunn Christmas Market is one of the most charming in the city
- Belvedere Palace
Belvedere Palace is a Baroque masterpiece housing works by Gustav Klimt and other Austrian artists. The palace gardens are equally stunning and perfect for photography.
- St. Stephen’s Cathedral & Vienna Old Town
The Gothic architecture of St. Stephen’s Cathedral dominates the skyline. Explore Graben and Kohlmarkt for shopping and soak in the old-world European charm.

Christmas in Vienna feels magical. The famous Christkindlmarkt at Rathausplatz and markets at Schönbrunn Palace transform the city into a winter wonderland Vienna.
